Presentation

The nautical tourism developed through the water-river resource is fundamental for the consolidation of tourist products that add in this conceptual dimension an added value for the regional and national territory, according to the Tourism Strategy 2027. Water is one of the six differentiating assets of the destination Portugal, emerging as a priority element of intervention and of extreme importance, since “water constitutes the support of unique assets located mostly in the interior of the country and with tourist potential” (Portugal, 2017). The 2030 Agenda: Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) reinforces actions aimed at protecting and safeguarding cultural and natural heritage. In a context of territorial competitiveness and innovation of the WaterRIVER.tour project, it is understood that the water resource, nautical tourism and the practice of wakeboarding have innovative advantages as an aggregator element of various tourist dynamics that imply endogenous resources to promote the territory. The heritage and landscape (environmental) wealth, found along water lines and rivers, acquire a tourist potential that must be used in the context of nautical tourism to promote the appreciation of the cultural and natural heritage and the sustainability of the territories.
